However, we also stock this fantastic sparkling wine in 1.5-litre magnum bottles and in
bottled in small 0.375-litre bottles of sparkling wine.

2021 Riesling Ice Wine
On the night of 22 December, the moment we’d been waiting for for 10 years had finally arrived.
It was cold enough for ice wine.
Last autumn, Paul had made the bold and forward-thinking decision to prepare a large plot – which would actually have yielded 1,000 litres – so that it would be in perfect condition for Eiswein.
What does that mean? In the autumn, we went round each vine twice and cut out the ‘grapes that weren’t looking so good’ one by one, removed all the leaves in the grape-bearing area and put up nets so that birds and wildlife couldn’t find any more grapes.
Then came the long wait. Violent storms in November didn’t make things any easier, as our nets were destroyed and we had to go out again to repair everything. Unfortunately, some of the grapes had also been blown away by the wind.
Nevertheless, we tidied everything up nicely once again and waited for the next full moon, as experience has shown that’s when it’s coldest.
On 21 December, it was already ‘freezing’ – the thermometer read -8° Celsius, cold enough for ice wine. But we were brave and decided to wait another night so that everything could freeze through properly. It was a bold decision, because if the weather had changed, everything would have been lost – in January, the grapes are often no longer of a high enough quality.
Father Frost was on our side
On 22 December at 5.00 am, with the temperature at –9 °C, we set off for the vineyard with a large and enthusiastic team. Wrapped up warm, we harvested the rock-hard frozen grapes within 1½ hours so that they could be pressed whilst still frozen.
We were able to harvest 100 litres of golden, high-extract ice wine with a sugar content of 138° Oechsle.

The Rhineland-Palatinate Chamber of Agriculture has named our 2018 Riesling Cremant brut – made from a blend of all the gold-medal-winning Rhineland-Palatinate sparkling wines from the state’s six wine-growing regions – as the best sparkling wine of 2021. We are very proud of this.
