our
Wine and Poetry
One of the winery’s particular strengths lies in its fruity Rieslings, which are full of character and elegance, sparkling wines produced using the traditional bottle-fermentation method, and full-bodied Burgundy, red and rosé wines.
Our Poesie wines
“For almost always and everywhere” (Riesling, Leiwener Laurentiuslay, dry)
“No ifs, ands or buts” (Riesling, Leiwener Laurentiuslay, off-dry)
“For the here and now” (Riesling, semi-sweet)
Riesling is the star of the Moselle
Our dry, semi-dry and sweet Rieslings are grown on Devonian slate in the steep slopes of the Laurentiuslay in Leiwen, the Goldtröpfchen in Piesport and the Zellerberg in Mehring.
They impress with their appealing colour, their distinctive bouquet, their complex flavours, their delicate minerality and, last but not least, their smoothness.
The long ripening period of the Riesling grapes on the vine, combined with the microclimate of the vineyards, gives rise to a wide variety of wines. Our Rieslings are fermented slowly and at a cool temperature, which preserves the grapes’ aromas. Following fermentation, we allow the young Rieslings to mature on the fine lees for as long as possible in order to produce balanced and harmonious wines.
Chardonnay and Pinot Gris
Although very different, both wines captivate with their full body and their light, low-acidity elegance.
Our Chardonnay wine has great potential for quality and, thanks to its exceptional adaptability to different growing conditions, Mosel Chardonnay can differ significantly from its Chardonnay counterparts around the world and hold its own.
The Grauer Burgunder glows with a rich golden-yellow colour and captivates with its unique bouquet.
Two alternatives to mineral-style Riesling.
Sparkling wine made using the traditional method
Years of experience with renowned sparkling wine producers have laid the foundations for producing our own sparkling wines using the traditional method since 1997.
Our production method:
Carefully selected Riesling and Chardonnay wines are mixed with yeast, bottled in pressure-resistant sparkling wine bottles and sealed with a crown cap.
The wine in the bottle begins to ferment, producing carbon dioxide which cannot escape from the tightly sealed bottle. This is how the famous bubbles in sparkling wine are formed. After at least nine months’ ageing, the sparkling wine is disgorged, i.e. separated from the yeast. The sparkling wine is then fitted with its final cork and is finally ready to be enjoyed.
Our sparkling wine is predominantly produced in the ‘Brut’ style, as this creates a perfect harmony between the effervescence, delicate aromas, subtle sweetness and a light hint of yeast.
Red and rosé wines
Red wine has been grown at our vineyard since 1998.
The Regent grape variety, grown organically, and Pinot Noir form the basis of our red and rosé wines
At our winery, the Regent is fermented exclusively on the must. With the stalks and stems removed, the must ferments for up to 14 days.
This results in deep red, tannin-rich red wines, some of which we age in large wooden casks (1000l) and others in small barrique casks (225l).
Pinot Noir
The bouquet of this Pinot Noir is so enticing that you’ll find yourself not wanting to take your nose out of the glass.
This Pinot Noir red wine is also fermented on the skins; it is silky and sensuous, with notes of red and black fruits on the palate.
Pinot Noir Rosé
Healthy grapes, a short maceration period and fermentation at a cool temperature form the basis of our refreshing and fruity rosé.
This semi-dry rosé, served well chilled, is the perfect companion for balmy summer nights.
